Ojodu Junior High School, Lagos Gets WASH Facility With Solar Powered Borehole, Sponsored By WaterAid Nigeria, Pepsico Foundation

Over eight hundred students of Ojodu Junior High School in Lagos now have access to clean water and good toilets facilities under the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, WASH, scheme.

The WASH facility with a solar powered Water treatment plant was donated by WaterAid Nigeria and a global Non Governmental Organization, PepsiCo foundation, aimed at improving learning environment.

At the handover of the facility at the school premises at Ojodu, Representative of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Ayodele Oyedele, thanked the sponsors and urged the school management to make judicious use of the facility.

On her part, the Country Director WaterAid Nigeria, Ms Evelyn Mere and Team Lead, South Africa and West, East Central Africa, PepsiCo Foundation, Ms Devenri Adari, said the initiative was to increase school attendance especially for girls during their menstrual flow.

The Duo stated that they have supported one hundred and seventy three thousand people including men, women and children, with various trainings and facilities on WASH to ensure a healthy environment under the project so far.

The Principal of the school Onabowale Onabamiwo who was visibly excited about the project appreciated the sponsors and like Oliver twist requested for a Solar Power plant for the school library and computer rooms to improve reading culture among students.

Highpoint of the event was a playlet by the students on the importance of WASH facility in promoting good hygiene among students, with songs of appreciation.

Our Correspondent Yemisi Dada reports that the WASH facility has fifteen cubicles with ultra modern facility and a six thousand litres solar powered borehole and water treatment tank.
