Over 150 Bandits Neutralised in Joint Security Operation in Kano

No fewer than 150 bandits have been neutralised by a joint security task force comprising the Nigerian Military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other paramilitary agencies following coordinated attacks on communities in Shanono, Bagwai and Faruruwa Local Government Areas of Kano State.

The operation, which began on Thursday night and extended into Friday, also led to the recovery of 125 stolen cows, according to security sources.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai/Faruruwa Community Security Committee, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, commended the swift response and collaboration among the security agencies.

“I can confirm that the Bridge Commander of Bukavor Barracks, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, and the Director of the DSS in Kano personally led the operation. The bandits were chased into Kogoro town in Katsina State, where they were eliminated and the stolen cows recovered,” Bagobiri said.

He noted that the successful operation has effectively ended the persistent incursions by armed bandits who had turned parts of the area into grazing routes and cattle-rustling zones.

The attack initially involved hundreds of bandits riding motorcycles who stormed several villages in Shanono LGA, killing one civilian and rustling more than 150 cows. However, they were later intercepted and overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the joint security forces.

Bagobiri praised the gallantry of the Nigerian Military and other security agencies, while also expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, for their resolve in restoring peace to Kano State and northern Nigeria.
