PDP Advised to Move Its Convention to Lagos

The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has been urged to move its presidential primaries from Abuja to Lagos.

The Party had fixed its special convention on the 28th and 29th of this month to elect its presidential flagbearer in next year’s general election.

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Party in the South West, Chief Olabode George made the appeal at a media briefing attended by the party’s stakeholders in Ikoyi area of Lagos.

Chief George said holding the convention in Lagos would prevent unnecessary clash with the All Progressives Congress which had also fixed its presidential primaries on May 30 and 31 in Abuja, pointing out that it was dangerous for the PDP to hold its presidential primaries at a very close date to that of the ruling party’s

“So, it is an appeal to members of the NWC to look at it, and prevent falling into any trap. Let the APC hold theirs in Abuja and we hold ours here in Lagos, Lagos had many big arena, including the Tafawa Balewa Square, which can conveniently accommodate delegates”.

Chief George told the stakeholders that the party leadership had appealed to everyone to be calm and allow those that had purchased the presidential forms to go to the field to test their popularity since the zoning and rotational arrangements had failed, but however
urged delegates to consider competency in choosing the party’s presidential candidate

Chief Bode George also warned the party leadership against accepting the congress carried out by its former Lagos State Chairman, Mr. Adedeji Doherty, as the court ruling against him may cost the party the elections.

A Lagos State High Court had last year ruled against Mr. Doherty and reinstated former caretaker Chairman of the party in the state, Adegbola Dominic, as the legitimate chairman of the party in Lagos
