The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja.
The decision is contained in a communiqué issued after the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in the Federal Capital Territory.
The communiqué was jointly signed by the factional National Chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammed, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and is backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to the party, the NEC took the decision in line with its constitutional responsibilities and ongoing preparations for a smooth transition to an elected national leadership.
It also announced that Ward and Local Government Congresses will be held in February 2026 as part of activities leading to the National Convention.
The NEC directed the National Caretaker Committee, working with the National Organizing Secretary and other relevant organs of the party, to issue detailed guidelines, notices, and modalities for the conduct of the congresses in line with the PDP Constitution, INEC regulations, and judicial directives.
The committee further affirmed the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee and other caretaker committees at the state and zonal levels, pending the conduct of the National Convention, as well as state and zonal congresses.
It also mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate Convention Sub-Committees and commence full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
The NEC called on all members of the party to remain united, disciplined, and loyal to the PDP, while avoiding actions capable of undermining party cohesion and placing the collective interest of the party above personal considerations.
