Philanthropist Donates ENT Equipment to UBTH, Hails CMD Prof. Obaseki’s Visionary Leadership

To boost public healthcare, a US-based philanthropist, Dr. Magdalene Agada, through Dynamic Health Care Medical, has donated vital medical equipment to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to enhance diagnostics and airway management in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) medicine.

The donation, detailed in a formal letter to UBTH Chief Medical Director, Professor Darlington E. Obaseki, includes:

Five cases of diagnostic sets for comprehensive ear, nose, and throat (ENT) examinations

One conventional rigid Macintosh laryngoscope with blade sizes 0 to 4, housed in a protective case

Dr. Agada highlighted the lifesaving potential of the equipment, explaining that ENT diagnostic sets are critical for early detection of infections, growths, and abnormalities in the head and neck region. The laryngoscope, she added, is essential in airway management—particularly in surgical procedures, emergency intubation, and critical care.

“With these tools, UBTH physicians can perform more accurate diagnoses and manage emergency airway cases swiftly and safely,” she said. “We are proud to support UBTH’s frontline heroes and help strengthen Nigeria’s tertiary health institutions.”

Dr. Agada also offered glowing praise for the hospital’s leadership, describing Professor Obaseki as the engine behind UBTH’s transformation.

“When you walk through the gates of UBTH, there’s a calmness that speaks of leadership… of vision… of care. Behind that calm, that excellence, and the progress we see, is a man — humble, focused, and driven by purpose.”

She further described him as a compassionate, visionary leader whose dedication inspires confidence and progress.

“His doors are open. His ears listen. His hands work. And his heart beats for the well-being of patients, staff, and the future of healthcare in Nigeria… Prof. Obaseki — the pride of UBTH, a blessing to our time.”

Professor Obaseki, known for his hands-on and reform-driven approach, has overseen critical infrastructure upgrades and service expansion at UBTH in recent years. Under his watch, the hospital has earned recognition as a benchmark for clinical excellence and institutional transformation.

In addition to the UBTH gesture, a similar donation of medical equipment was also made by Dr. Agada to the Taraba State Government, where it was formally received by Dr. Bordiya Buma, the Commissioner for Health.

Dr. Buma expressed deep gratitude to the donor for what he described as a “timely intervention” that would bolster healthcare delivery in the state. He also urged other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture, noting that such acts of kindness were crucial in supporting the vulnerable and underserved in society.
