The Rivers State Police Command has cautioned members of the public against the trending practice of collecting transport money from men and failing to honour the visit, describing it as a punishable offence.
Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a viral video, said the act amounts to obtaining money under false pretence, which is a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
She explained that anyone found guilty of such deceit could be arrested and prosecuted, urging Nigerians to avoid financial dealings that are based on dishonesty.
The police spokesperson’s clarification has generated mixed reactions across social media, with some Nigerians dismissing the matter as a moral issue, while others supported the position that it is fraudulent.
