The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the successful intervention in a violent altercation that broke out between commercial tricycle (keke) operators and a group of youths at Evans Square, Ebute Metta, on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
A distress call was received at approximately 12:30 p.m. by officers of the Adekunle Police Division. In swift response, police patrol teams, tactical squads, and other operatives were dispatched to the scene, effectively restoring calm within a short period.
One individual who sustained injuries during the incident was promptly rescued and transported to a nearby medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and recovering well.
Three suspects linked to the public disturbance were arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody. The Lagos Police Command confirmed that the suspects will be arraigned in court following the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to take over the case for a detailed investigation to identify the root cause and ensure all those involved face justice.
In a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command emphasized that the incident was not ethnically or politically motivated. “There is no indication of ethnic tension or related violence anywhere in the State. The fracas was instigated by hoodlums exploiting the situation,” the statement clarified.
The Commissioner reassured residents that the incident poses no threat to the peace and security of Lagos State and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to uphold law and order across all communities.
Parents and guardians have been advised to caution their children and wards against engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace. The public is further encouraged to go about their daily activities without fear, as security remains intact.
