President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria,CBN, to release into circulation the old two hundred naira notes to serve as a legal tender alongside the new naira notes of two hundred, five hundred and one thousand for the next sixty days.
President Buhari who gave the directive in a national broadcast said the development was to ease the hardship occasioned by the cash crunch across the country.
The President who sympathized with citizens on the difficulties encountered in the last few weeks due to cash scarcity assured them that the new naira notes policy has good intention to revive the economy and not to cause further hardship.
He noted that his administration would continue to obey the rule of law and admonished youths to shun unhealthy protests and violence capable of disrupting the peace of the nation.
Speaking on the forthcoming elections, President Buhari urged every citizens to vote for candidates of their choice without fear with a promise that security would be provided to ensure all votes count.
