The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has renewed its backing for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda following a two-day strategic meeting held in Lagos between December 5 and 6, 2025.

The meeting, convened by the Forum’s Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, brought together governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Deliberations were held at the Eko Hotels Board Room, Victoria Island.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the session, the governors reviewed the country’s political, economic and social landscape, aligning on collective priorities to improve citizens’ welfare and reinforce ongoing national reforms.

The Forum emphasised that its discussions centred on ensuring that federal reforms translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians. The governors commended President Tinubu for efforts to stabilise the economy, strengthen security and advance structural reforms in food security, power, transport, infrastructure and social investment.

They pledged to harmonise state-level programmes with federal initiatives to ensure that Nigerians across urban and rural communities feel the full impact of ongoing reforms.

Acknowledging the economic hardship facing citizens due to macroeconomic adjustments, the governors commended Nigerians’ resilience and sacrifices. They agreed to expand interventions in food production, SME support, youth employment and targeted assistance for vulnerable groups. According to the communiqué, the PGF will deepen collaboration with federal institutions, the National Economic Council and local governments to ensure inclusive progress.

The Forum also praised Lagos State’s pioneering efforts in transport reforms and urban renewal. It resolved to scale up investments in roads, housing, public transport, water and sanitation, digital connectivity and climate-resilient infrastructure, with a commitment to ensuring inclusivity for youths, women, persons with disabilities and marginalised communities.

On security, the governors noted improved coordination among security agencies and communities. They applauded ongoing reforms in the country’s security architecture and reiterated that protecting lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government. The Forum pledged to strengthen intelligence gathering, community vigilance, conflict prevention and support for victims of violence and disasters. It also called on national and community leaders to promote unity, moderation and mutual respect to safeguard social cohesion.

The PGF highlighted the crucial role of effective local government administration in delivering development. It resolved to deepen reforms to promote transparency, accountability and improved service delivery at the grassroots. The Forum further agreed to expand citizen engagement through town halls and consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, professional associations, youth and women groups.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the APC, the governors commended the party leadership for ongoing efforts to strengthen internal democracy, discipline and inclusiveness. They pledged to maintain their stabilising role within the party and restated unwavering support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Expressing confidence in Nigeria’s future, the Forum pledged deeper inter-state cooperation and more coordinated reforms. It urged Nigerians to remain united, support government policies and go about their activities peacefully as the festive season approaches.

The governors called on citizens to uphold values of patriotism, hard work and mutual respect, reaffirming their commitment to work with the President, the National Assembly, local governments, the private sector and traditional and religious institutions to build a just, secure and prosperous nation.
