PWDs Urged to Register to Vote: “Your Voice Matters!” — JONAPWD

The Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, has issued a passionate call to all persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Anambra State to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, ahead of its closure on Wednesday, July 17, 2025.

In a statement titled “Clarion Call to Persons with Disabilities: Get Involved, Get Your PVC Now!”, Okeke described the opportunity as a critical moment for the disability community to be counted, heard, and involved in shaping the state’s future.

“This is our moment to be heard and to shape our future. If you have not yet obtained your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), now is the time to act fast. Your vote is your voice, and your voice matters!” he emphasized.

“Why Should PWDs Register?”Comrade Okeke urged members across various disability cluster groups to see voter registration as a civic responsibility and a gateway to meaningful inclusion.

“Without your vote, your issues may continue to be sidelined,” he said. “By registering, you are choosing leaders who care about disability rights.

Participation is power—power to say Nothing Without Us and truly mean it.”

He praised the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Anambra State for affirming the rights of PWDs to priority treatment at registration and voting centers, as well as access to supportive services and conducive environments throughout the electoral process.

Security Assured for PWDs

Okeke also commended the state’s security agencies for providing assurances of protection throughout the voter registration exercise.

“Don’t let anything hold you back,” he urged. “Let’s show Ndi Anambra and the world that disability is not inability. Go out now and register. Together, we can build a more inclusive democracy.”

The CVR, which began on July 8, 2025, is set to end on Wednesday, July 17, 2025.

JONAPWD’s message reinforces the push for greater political participation and visibility for PWDs as Nigeria moves toward more inclusive democratic governance.
