RMAFC Begins Nationwide Data Verification to Reform Revenue Allocation System

The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has launched a nationwide data verification exercise aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s revenue sharing formula and aligning it with current socio-economic realities across the country.

Chairman of the Commission, Mohammed Bello Shehu, described the initiative as a landmark step toward improving fiscal federalism and ensuring a more equitable distribution of national resources.

He stressed that credible and up-to-date data is essential for building a transparent and sustainable allocation framework.

According to him, the exercise will review key indicators used in distributing revenue among states and local governments, including population, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and internally generated revenue capacity.

He noted that Nigeria’s evolving demographics and development patterns make periodic data validation necessary.

The Commission will conduct the exercise region by region across all states and the Federal Capital Territory, engaging Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), local authorities, and community stakeholders.

It will also hold stakeholder engagement sessions to promote transparency, trust, and collaboration throughout the process.

RMAFC emphasized that the outcome of the verification exercise will significantly influence national planning, fiscal management, and balanced regional development, ensuring that future revenue allocations are driven by accurate, evidence-based data.
