President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been awarded Saint Lucia’s highest national honour — the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) — in recognition of his efforts to strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean.
The honour was conferred during an official reception at Government House, Morne Fortune, by the Governor-General of Saint Lucia, Errol Charles.
Tinubu, now formally addressed as Sir Bola Ahmed Tinubu, KCOSL (Hon.), described the honour as humbling and symbolic of deepening connections between Nigeria and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
“I came here as a president, but I’m leaving as a knight,” Tinubu said, pledging to advance cooperation in trade, education, culture, and climate resilience.
The Governor-General praised Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to South-South solidarity, while Prime Minister Philip Pierre described the visit as historic and essential to rekindling Africa-Caribbean ties.
President Tinubu also addressed the Saint Lucian Parliament earlier in the day, where he reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to foster economic and cultural exchange with OECS nations.
