The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday marked the 74th birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the distribution of 20,000 food packs and a personalised open letter to residents across the state.
The initiative, which reached individuals and groups across Lagos, was flagged off at the De Blue Roof Event Centre, Agidingbi, and extended to communities across the state.
The event drew top government officials, including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Tajudeen Afolabi.
Participants included political and community leaders, representatives of various groups, as well as women and youth organisations, who gathered to celebrate the President’s birthday.
In addition to the central event, food packs were distributed to Christian and Muslim faithful at places of worship, including the Chapel of Christ The Light and the Central Mosque in Alausa, as well as to residents across the 20 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of the state.
In an open letter to Lagosians, read on his behalf, Governor Sanwo-Olu described President Tinubu as an “extraordinary leader” and called on residents to celebrate his life and achievements.
The letter emphasised unity and optimism, urging citizens to remain committed to the nation’s ongoing reforms and development agenda.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also paid tribute to President Tinubu’s legacy as former Governor of Lagos State, noting that his administration laid the foundation for the state’s economic growth and institutional development.
According to him, the revenue reforms, governance structures, and developmental vision introduced during Tinubu’s tenure continue to shape Lagos as a leading economic hub in Africa.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Omotoso described the occasion as significant, noting that the initiative was designed to enable Lagosians to participate in celebrating the President while benefiting from a welfare programme.
He added that representatives from various groups were invited to ensure inclusiveness and statewide impact
Also speaking, Dr. Afolabi said the initiative reflected the Governor’s commitment to both celebrating leadership and supporting residents, describing it as a gesture aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the distribution, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly in the face of current economic challenges.
The event also featured prayers for Nigeria and for continued wisdom and strength for President Tinubu in leading the country.
