Sanwo-Olu Cheers Nigerian Attempting to Break Guinness World Record

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday, visited a Lagos based Chef, 27 year old Hilda Bassey effiong, aka, Hilda Baci, who is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking by an individual.

Hilda started the 4-day cookathon on May 11 at Amore Garden, Lekki Lagos, with the aim of cooking for 96 hours to break the record currently held by an Indian Chef, Tata Lala who cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who witnessed the moment Hilda hit the 69th hour in the kitchen at exactly one o’clock on Sunday afternoon described the attempt as remarkable and a demonstration of the resilient spirit of Lagos and Nigerian values.

He said: “My presence here is to encourage a young talented citizen who has been making all of us proud. You can see the Nigerian spirit popping out from her; the resilient spirit that Lagos is known for. We can also feel the Akwa Ibom spirit.

“Hilda is a great inspiration and motivator displaying the values of our country. I wish her the strength and courage to finish well and break the global record. Having made history with the largest cupcakes, we are expecting to have another first for our country and State.”

The Governor who chatted briefly with Hilda to boost her morale was offered a taste of some of the meals prepared, including Akwa Ibom’s traditional Edikan Ikong and Egusi soup.

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged youths across the country, who had been rooting for Hilda on social media, not to relent in sending their wishes, stressing that the global record would be their collective win.

The Cookathon will wind up at 4pm on Monday which Hilda expected to become the new Guiness World record holder.
