Sanwo-Olu Notifies Lagosians of “Strict Enforcement” of Traffic law, Clampdown on Okada in 15 Council Areas

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated the ban imposed on the activities of commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, in six local governments and nine LCDA’s as well as highways and bridges

The Governor who restated this during the annual thanksgiving service at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, announced that strict enforcement of the ban and that of the road traffic law would be stepped up this year.

“We hereby reiterate the implementation of this ban and our willingness to strictly enforce the same. We’ve seen several deaths, we’ve seen several security issues, people that just drive against traffic without fear, without understanding and without appreciating that there are other road users, we would be stepping up enforcement of our robust traffic laws which must among other, prohibit driving against traffic and breaking of our highway codes” the Governor stated.

The affected Local Government and Council Devt Areas include: Apapa LG, Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Lagos Mainland LGA, Yaba LCDA, Surulere LGA, Itire-Ikate LCDA, and Coker-Aguda LCDA.

Others are Ikeja LGA, Onigbongbo, LCDA, Ojodu LCDA, Eti-Osa LGA, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, and Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Lagos Island LGA and Lagos Island East LCDA, while the major highways include Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi, Oworonshoki-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta, Lagos-Badagry and Eti-Osa/Lekki-Epe Expressway as well as Funsho Williams Avenue and Agege Motor Road.

Bridges where commercial motorcycle operations are prohibited include 3rd Mainland/Oworonsoki Bridge, Eko Bridge, Apongbon flyover, Cowry Bridge (Officers Mess), Mcwen Bridge (Bonny Camp), Marina/Ikoyi, Ikoyi/Obalende Bridge,
Iyana- Ipaja Bridge Agege, Dopemu Bridge Agege and Airport/Ikeja Bridge

Others are Agege Motor road/oshodi Loop, Oshodi, Mushin/Isolo Link Bridge, Dorman Long Bridge, Ojuelegba Bridge, National Stadium Flyover, 2 Flyover Bridges along Alhaji Masha Road, Apapa-Iganmu Bridge, Apapa-Ijora Link Bridge, Liverpool Bridge, Apapa, Mile 2 Bridge-Loop, Amuwo-Odofin, Okota (cele)/Ijesha Link Bridge, Apakun/Apapa-Oshodi Bridge Network, Ikorodu Road/Anthony Clover leaf Bridge, Trade Fair Flyover, Festac/Amuwo-Odofin Link Bridge Ojota Clover leaf Bridge and Ogudu Bridge
