Sanwo-Olu Opens Modern School built by COWLSO

A two-storey state-of-the-art school building has been inaugurated in Ogombo in Eti Osa Council Area of Lagos State. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, inaugurated the Ogombo Community Senior Secondary School built by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, COWLSO.

He thanked the COWLSO for its commitment to the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda through some initiatives for women, youths, older people, the less privileged, and social welfare. Governor Sanwo-Olu said the infrastructure was another success story that would ensure learning and teaching in a conducive environment.

“The commissioning of this purpose-built 15-classroom block is another success story in the efforts of our administration to provide educational infrastructure for effective learning and teaching in a conducive environment. It is very important to note that this block of classrooms, comprising three floors, was designed with adequate provision for the needs of physically challenged pupils. This is in compliance with global standards and our T.H.E.M.E.S+ policy thrust of not leaving anyone behind. On our part, we will complement this Junior Secondary School with a Senior Secondary School soon. This will allow for a seamless progression of pupils from junior to senior secondary school within the same environment, thereby eliminating the inconvenience of pupils of Ogombo Community undertaking long journeys to school,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The Governor urged the people of Ogombo to take pride in the public facilities in their domain, saying that the government would not leave any child behind in its education policy. Governor Sanwo-Olu restated the commitment of his administration to the provision of modern infrastructure in public schools.

He said, “A key part of this is the construction of new school blocks and classrooms in all the communities that are in need of such. I am happy to report that we have completed the construction of blocks and classrooms in some of our schools, and these are awaiting commissioning. These include Ipaja Junior College, Isale Ilu Majiyagbe in Ipaja; Oriokuta Junior Secondary School in Ikorodu; Thogli Community Grammar School in Badagry; and Ilupeju Junior Grammar School in Oshodi. Several others are close to being completed.”

In an address, the Wife of the Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who said the journey of the project commenced in December 2021, when COWLSO realized that Ogombo community was in dire need of a secondary school, urged the people to take ownership and protect the facility which is a veritable access to the educational development of the children in the community.

“Standing before us today is a fully completed and equipped 3-floor educational structure, with 15 Ultra-modern classrooms, 30 toilets, libraries, laboratories, an ICT Center, offices for teaching and Management Staff, as well as a well-equipped sick bay. There are also staircases and a ramp, putting the ease of movement and safety of the physically challenged into consideration,” she said.

Dr Sanwo-Olu congratulated the Governor and his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, on the election Tribunal judgement, saying the building project was in line with the founding objectives of the committee to impact lives positively and contribute immensely to the political and socio-economic development of Lagos State.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, his Wife, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State Assembly, Chief Naheem Adams, some members of the state executive council and traditional rulers.
