Sanwo-Olu Partners with Rome Business School, Awards 150 Scholarships to Lagos Residents

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a strategic partnership with the Rome Business School (RBS), Italy, aimed at enhancing knowledge exchange and entrepreneurial development across the state.

The governor made the disclosure during a courtesy visit by the founder and Dean of the Rome Business School, Professor Antonio Ragusa, at the Lagos House, Marina.

Describing the collaboration as a milestone in his administration’s efforts to build human capital and improve the global competitiveness of Lagosians, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that 150 students from the state would benefit from scholarships worth ₦1 million each. The scholarships are designed to equip beneficiaries with advanced business and leadership skills.

“I listened to you carefully. Our students visited Rome, and now you’ve come here. That reflects the resilient Nigerian spirit — our drive to explore, connect, and excel globally,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“Once you engage with Nigerians, you’ll find not just hospitable people but individuals who are intelligent, knowledgeable, and fiercely driven. Tertiary education is the best platform to refine those ambitions, deepen knowledge, and transform individuals into valuable assets for society.”

The governor also highlighted progress made in expanding access to tertiary education in Lagos. “When we assumed office, Lagos State had just one university. In six years, we’ve added two more and are currently evaluating plans for a fourth — a medical university.”

He also cited the establishment of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, a one-year fully residential fellowship programme that selects 30 fellows annually from over 15,000 applicants. “We ensure gender balance and inclusivity while maintaining a diverse cohort,” he said.

In his remarks, Professor Ragusa lauded the state’s commitment to education and innovation. He emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and cultural exchange.

“Nigeria has become a second home for me. We already recognise Nigeria as the giant of Africa. With strong leadership and the right investments in education, Nigeria can become a global economic powerhouse,” Ragusa said.

He affirmed the institution’s readiness to serve Lagos and its residents through the scholarship programme and future initiatives.
