Sanwo-Olu promises to increase salary of street sweepers as community development associations back him

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to increase the salary and welfare package of the staff of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, particularly that of street sweepers.

The Governor made the pledge while addressing members of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, AWAMN, popularly known as PSP, at a mega rally in Onikan, organised by the union to endorse all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2023 general elections.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who addressed the thousands of people from the sector who had converged on Mobolaji Johnson Arena in the Yoruba language, thanked them for endorsing him and the Presidential candidate of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and also urged them to mobilise others, especially at the grassroots.

In a goodwill message, LAWMA’s Managing Director, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni reminded the PSP operators that LAWMA, which had provided them with jobs was the brainchild of Asiwaju Tinubu.

Mr. Odumboni appealed to the AWAMN members to equally translate the massive support to electoral votes on election day, as this was the only way to truly appreciate and help actualize the worthy ambitions of Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

Earlier, AWAMN’s National President, Mr. David Oriyomi, noted that Asiwaju Tinubu brought in the PSPs in 1999 when he was Governor of Lagos State in a bid to tackle the waste problems, while also
nurturing and empowering through the small-medium business model, which successive Governments in the State had comsolidated.

Pointing out that the model has been
replicated in over 9 states in Nigeria and other West African countries,
Mr Oriyomi pledged that the association would embark on a door-to-door campaign, to secure 10millikn votes for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima, and also garner 2million votes for Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

Meanwhile, over four thousand Community Development Associations delegates from the twenty Local Government and thirty -seven Local Council Development Areas of the state
have endorsed Governor Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office.

The Chairman of the CDAs, Alhaji Azeez Amusat who led executive members of CDA/CDC to declared the support of the Associations during the 2022 Community Day celebration commended the Sanwo-Olu’s administration for carrying out many development projects while also encouraging and supporting CDAs self help projects.

In his remarks, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu thanked the Associations for the support and acknowledged the critical roles being played by the Associations as well as the need for continuous engagements to improve the lives of the people.

Highlight of the event, with the theme: “Strengthening Community Engagement For Inclusive Governance” was the presentation of four vehicles to outstanding Community Development Associations in the year 2022, as well as other Prizes and awards to others who had also distinguished themselves through self help projects.
