Sanwo-Olu Reiterates Commitment To Reposition The Education Sector As LASU students Back Him on Peace Walk

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to revamping infrastructure within the State-owned University, LASU, to make the Institution economically and digitally viable and one of the best in the world.

Speaking at this year’s Annual Governor’s Lecture organised by the Lagos State University Alumni Association, with the Theme: “Educational Leadership and Technology as Viable Options for Economic Recovery and Nationhood: The Experience of Lagos State”,
Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that teachers in the State are being empowered with new skills, while technical colleges are being supported and secondary schools are fast becoming comprehensive learning Centres.

He said “Gone are those days when people will come out with NCEs that are not comparable, everybody mustn’t have a University education and if you are not meant to go to a University, we are providing technical colleges where you can go to from secondary schools, not only that, we are turning a lot of our public schools into comprehensive schools”

The Governor announced that the State House of Assembly had amended the Acts establishing the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH, to reflect its new status as a University of Science and technology, as well as Adeniran Ogunsanya and Micheal Otedola colleges of Education
to Universities of Education.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who got an award during the lecture was accompanied by his Special Adviser on Education, Mr.Tokunbo Wahab and was received by LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Mrs
Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, in company of the Management to unveil the Lagos State University Student’s Arcade Building

The LASU students Arcade is reputed to be the largest Student Union Building in any Nigerian tertiary institution.

The President of the Student Union Government, Comrade Oladipupo Uthman Badmus and Speaker of the Students Union Representatives, Comrade Mustapha Adejuwon, who led hundreds of students to welcome the Governor described him as a Youth-Centric Governor.

Comrade Badmus who commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his efforts at repositioning the institution said all LASU students have resolved to walk with the Governor for peace and prosperity of the State.

“We are appreciative of this great facility, sir, let’s assure you, whenever you walk, we will walk with you, we will walk by your side” he said

Earlier this week, Governor Sanwo-Olu had announced at a news briefing that he would be walking for peace sometimes this month as part of efforts to heal the wounds inflicted during the violence which marred the #Endsars protests.

The Governor had invited those in the forefront of the EndSars agitations in the State to walk with him, but nearly all of them had declined the invite.
