Sanwo-Olu Swears-in 57 LG, LCDA Chairmen, Charges Them on Inclusive Governance

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday swore in the newly elected Chairmen of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state, with a call on them to embrace inclusive leadership and prioritize the welfare of residents.

Speaking at the swearing-in and oath-taking ceremony held at the Sports Ground, Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the newly inaugurated council helmsmen to serve with fairness, transparency, and a strong sense of responsibility.

He reminded them that their assumption of office is not just a political achievement but a call to duty, stressing the need to align their work with the THEMES Plus development agenda of the state government.

“We are not here to celebrate positions, but responsibility and integrity. Let the THEMES agenda come alive in your communities. Lagosians expect visible leadership and you must be accountable,” the Governor said.

He also advised them to exercise caution in the appointment of cabinet members, urging them to select individuals based on competence, integrity, and commitment to public service.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the newly sworn-in officials through training and capacity development, adding that their success would translate to improved grassroots governance and accelerated development across the state.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, said the successful emergence of the new chairmen at the polls was a testament to their acceptance by the people and an endorsement of their leadership.

“The people have spoken through the ballot. This victory is a call to deepen governance at the grassroots level and ensure service delivery to all,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the new council chairmen, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Mr. Sesan Olowa, thanked the Governor and the people of Lagos for the opportunity to serve. He assured that the new officials remain committed to sustaining the legacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and delivering impactful governance.

“We will uphold the values of the APC and ensure that development touches every ward and community under our care,” he pledged.

Some of the newly sworn-in council bosses include Lanre Sanusi (Amuwo-Odofin), Samiat Bada (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA), and Usman Hamzat (Ifako-Ijaiye), among others.

The Inauguration ceremony was attended by party leaders, family members of the new officials, traditional rulers, and members of the public.
