Sanwo-Olu Tells Chefs: Take Lagos Flavours to the World

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday threw down the gauntlet to chefs, caterers and food entrepreneurs, urging them to use creativity and innovation to take Lagos cuisine to the global stage.

The governor issued the challenge at the 2025 Lagos Food Festival on Victoria Island, where crowds were entertained with live music, cooking displays and a mouth-watering spread of local and international dishes.

Rolling up his sleeves, Sanwo-Olu joined the action by cooking seafood rice and stir-fry spinach, as he praised the festival for spotlighting the rich and diverse food culture of Lagos.

He said the state government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, has empowered thousands of entrepreneurs across the food value chain, adding that the festival gives Lagosians a chance to unwind while celebrating the flavours that tell the city’s story.

“This is about showing the world what Lagos tastes like,” the governor said, describing food as a powerful symbol of culture, identity and enterprise.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, said Lagos’ multicultural identity makes it important to celebrate everything that reflects the state’s values, including its vibrant food culture and the people who sustain it.

The festival also featured celebrity chefs and students from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State University of Technology and the University of Lagos, who thrilled guests with their culinary skills.

Top government officials, traditional rulers and members of the state executive council were among dignitaries at the colourful event.

This year’s Lagos Food Festival carries the theme “Taste Beyond Borders,” capturing the ambition to blend local flavours with global appeal.
