A seven-year-old boy, Jafar Sani, has been confirmed dead after a building collapsed during a flood disaster that swept through parts of Sokoto State.
The tragedy occurred in one of the affected villages in Shagari Local Government Area, leaving his family and the wider community in grief.
The flood, triggered by four days of torrential rainfall, submerged thousands of farmlands, destroyed homes, and ravaged the Dandin-Mahe market in Shagari LGA.
In Bodinga LGA, over 3,000 farmlands were destroyed in Badau village, while 75 were lost in Butuku, Toma Ward.
A joint assessment team from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) visited the affected communities.
Led by SEMA’s Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Malam Mustapha Umar, and NEMA’s Planning Officer, Mr. Tukur Abubakar, the team promised to compile their findings for urgent humanitarian response.Residents, many of whom lost their means of livelihood, have appealed to the state and federal governments for immediate support to cushion the hardship.
