The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced a temporary disruption in SIM-related services across all mobile networks due to the ongoing migration to a new identity verification platform introduced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
In a statement issued Tuesday, ALTON Chairman Gbenga Adebayo and Publicity Secretary Damian Udeh said the transition has triggered technical challenges that are affecting real-time verification processes essential for services such as SIM registration, SIM swap, replacement, and mobile number portability (MNP).
“Although the new platform is designed to improve identity management, it has temporarily impacted the ability of mobile network operators to deliver uninterrupted SIM services,” the statement read.
As a result, telcos are currently unable to process SIM-related requests, including activations and replacements.
ALTON assured the public that it is working closely with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NIMC, and other relevant agencies to resolve the issues.
“We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to restore full services,” Adebayo said.
