Spanish Club Bans Fan for Abusing Nigeria International

A man who racially abused Nigeria international winger Samuel Chukwueze has bagged a 3yr suspension from accessing Spanish side Real Mallorca’s stadium.

Mallorca came down hard on the racist season ticket holder after he hauled racial insults at Chukwueze during a recent La Liga game against Villarreal at Son Moix stadium where the home side won 4-2.

On handing out the punishment which includes withdrawal of the offender’s subscription card, Mallorca took into cognizance similar insult by the suspended fan on Real Madrid’s Brazilian player Vinicius Junior at Moix.

In a statement, the Balearic entity wanted to make it clear that it is “against all xenophobic manifestations” and that is why it will continue to work “actively to eradicate this scourge.”

Despite the attack at Moix stadium, Samu was able to score a goal for Villarreal who ended up losing the encounter 2-4.

The racial incident could be the least of things on the mind of the 23yr old Chukwueze after joining up with the Nigeria camp in Abuja today for this Friday’s 1st leg AFCON 2023 qualifier against Djurtus of Guinea Bissau.

With the 2nd leg slated for Bissau on 27 March, Samu who has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Villarreal is expected to form a formidable attacking combo, for Nigeria, with Italia Serie A top scorer Victor Osimhen who also arrived the Eagles’ camp today.
