On a sad note, a dispatch rider has lost his life at PWD Railway Level Crossing in Ikeja.
The incident involved a moving train and a dispatch motorcycle with the registration number AGL 179 QR.

Preliminary investigations by security personnel at the scene indicated that the dispatch rider was reportedly travelling at excessive speed.
In an attempt to quickly manoeuvre across the railway track to access the GRA area of Ikeja, he collided with an oncoming train, resulting in his death, and the train continued its journey along the track without stopping.
The remains of the deceased were evacuated by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for appropriate procedures.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the incident as a distressing reminder of the severe consequences that can arise from impatience and disregard for traffic safety rules, especially at railway level crossings.
He urged all dispatch riders and motorists to exercise caution, patience, and discipline while travelling, particularly near railway intersections.
Mr Bakare-Oki emphasised the importance of adhering to all traffic signals and government-installed warning signs, not only in Lagos State but throughout the entire country, to prevent avoidable road tragedies.
The General Manager reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to ongoing public education, proactive enforcement, and safety advocacy, aiming to ensure orderliness and discipline across the Lagos metropolis.
