Stakeholders Call For State-wide ban on Okada in Lagos

Stakeholders at a Lagos State forum on operation of commercial motorcycle operators popularly called Okada in Alausa, Ikeja, have called for a state-wide ban on their activities.


One of the speakers, Mr. Sanya Oni said the menace of Okada riders was more than the merits and that the state couldn’t move forward with motorcycles as a means of transportation.


An activist, Mr. Nelson Ekujimi called on youths to embrace skill acquisition and shun get rich quick syndrome through the riding of Okada.


A community leader, Alhaji Azeez Hamzat canvassed a state-wide ban on Okada in the best interest of the people.


Contributing to the discussion, a youth leader, Mr Lekan Sulaiman said a state-wide ban on Okada was good but it would only work if the government had the political will to do so in an election year.


He accused politicians and law enforcement agents of contributing to the Okada menace because they were investors in the Okada business.
