As Nigerians braze up for the NLC strike planned to commence on the 3rd of October, the federal government has expressed the hope that the planned strike will be called off.
Raising from a four – hour meeting between the Federal government, NLC and TUC looking at the issues raised on behalf of the Nigerian workers, the chief of staff Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila addressing the press said the three bodies have reached an agreement.
” I am happy to say that after four hours of deliberation, we have reached certain agreements that will benefit the Nigerian workers on wage and salary increase committee among others ” Femi Gbajabiamila.
” We expect that Labour will call the meeting of their various branches and executives tomorrow to brief them of the agreements that had been reached and hope that the strike will be called off on Tuesday ” – He said
Femi Gbajabiamila also clear the air on the #25,000 naira increase saying that it made the round and having consulted with the President, he approved it should be for the Nigerian workers and not for a category of people.
” there was a lot of chatter on Twitter about the increase for low income workers and the President mandated that it should be paid across board as there are not low, middle or high income adding that it is worthy of clarification “.
He assured Nigerians that government and Labour are not adversaries, but are in partnership for the good of the common man “.
As it is, the organs of the NLC and TUC are to decide if the strike will hold or not.
The NLC President Joe Ajaero said, there was not much to say but to lay the cards before other organs of the Union for a review.
” We have been meeting on all the promising notes. We looked at how to translate them into reality and workable. We are going to take those promises to our organs. You know the people here cannot just wake up and review and call off actions, quoting Femi Gbajabiamila, we are hopeful that our organs will look at them and give us a fresh mandate on what next to do ” NLC President Joe Ajaero
The Deputy President TUC Dr. Tommy Etim Okon, on behalf of the TUC says ” we have had series of conversations surrounding the issues raised. We do hope that by tomorrow, we are going to get the message across to our organs so that they can also look at it, cross fertilize the ideas and see the way forward, adding that the meeting continues tomorrow ” his name
