Students To Gain Practical Experience from Lagos Rail Projects

The Lagos State Government says it will be taking advantage of the ongoing construction works across the State to transfer knowledge to students in higher institutions.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who made this known while fielding questions from newsmen during an inspection tour of the blue and red line rail projects said his administration would make arrangements with the various institutions on how the students can benefit from practical knowledge in their fields.

“Part of the things that we have said to all the contractors where we have been to is that we need to have what we call “proper skills transfer” local knowledge transfer, so we’ll be working with Lagos State University, LASU, University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology, where you’ll see students of engineering coming to see and have a feel of what rail construction is all about, they will use this rail, bridge and road construction as learning tools, so that they will see how these things are done” the Governor said

The Governor who expressed satisfaction on the progress of the construction work, began the tour of the rail projects from the Ikeja train hub to Yaba and the Marina intermodal terminal, and explained that he had directed the contractors handling the projects to involve more local engineers in the construction works in which over one thousand Nigerians are currently engaged in.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also assured Lagos residents that the 2022 completion date of the rail projects is still on course as passenger traffic would commence operation by the last quarter or the first quarter of 2023.
