The Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria is urging Nigerians to plan their families and use modern contraception.

The Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria (NRHJN) has called on Nigerians to plan their families using modern contraception methods. The group made the call as part of its activities to mark the World Contraception Day (WCD), which is celebrated every year on September 26.

According to the NRHJN, family planning is a human right that can improve the health and well-being of women and girls, as well as reduce maternal and child mortality. The group also said that family planning can help Nigeria achieve its demographic dividend, which is the economic benefit that arises when a country has a lower dependency ratio and a larger working-age population.

The NRHJN urged the government and other stakeholders to ensure that quality reproductive health care services, especially modern contraception, are accessible, affordable and acceptable to all Nigerians who need them. The group also appealed to the media to increase awareness and advocacy on the benefits of family planning and to counter myths and misconceptions that may hinder its uptake.

The NRHJN is a network of journalists who are committed to promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls in Nigeria. The group was established in 2010 with support from the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Africa Region.
