Tinubu Calls for Community Security Committees to Strengthen Peace Across Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has called for the creation of community-based security committees across Nigeria to enhance peace, stability, and collaboration among citizens.

Tinubu made the call in Birnin Kebbi during the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) General Assembly, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Kebbi State.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the President said the committees would promote dialogue, conflict resolution, and strengthen coordination between communities, traditional rulers, and security agencies.

Themed “Strengthening Community Collaboration for Lasting Peace in Northern Nigeria,” the assembly focused on building local solutions to security challenges.

Tinubu noted that the committees would also encourage interfaith dialogue, trust-building among religious groups, and efforts to reduce communal conflicts.

He further stressed the need to empower women and youth through education, economic opportunities, and leadership development as part of preventive strategies against violent extremism.

The President emphasized that inclusive decision-making and community participation remain vital to sustaining peace and national unity.

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the NTRC, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, commended Nigeria’s Armed Forces for their sacrifices in defending the country’s peace and unity.

He urged Nigerians to support security agencies and avoid spreading demoralizing messages on social media, reminding citizens that insecurity is a global challenge.

Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) praised the NTRC for hosting the event in Kebbi, describing the theme as timely and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to working with traditional rulers to promote peace and unity.
