Tinubu Calls on Governments to Support Manufacturing Industries to Provide Jobs for Youths

Federal and State governments have been advised to support industries that are capable of employing large numbers of young graduates so as to harness the productive capacity of the youths for the development of the nation’s economy.

This is the Submission of a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is also the National Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, while delivering the twenty-fifth Convocation Lecture of the Lagos state University, held at the Main campus of the University, Ojo.

Represented by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Asiwaju Tinubu stressed that by giving adequate backing to the manufacturing industries in the country, more unemployed youths would be taken off the labour markets, while others would be encouraged to start their own businesses.

He also advised that higher institutions of learning especially universities should impact the right knowlege that would meet the needs of the nation in the twenty- first century in their students rather than churn out graduates that were not globally competitive.

Asiwaji Tinubu said gone were the days when students were taught more of theories that could not impact the economy positively.

Pointing out the need for the provision of adequate infrastrusture in every sector of the economy for a better society, the National Leader of the APC, said it was time for the nation to provide good electrical power supply in the country to encourage private business establishments in the country.

Asiwaju Tinubu stressed that there was need to improve on rural road networks and adequate funding of refrigeration systems for use by farmers and merchants in major markets in each state state of the federation to combat food spoilage.

He noted that reforms were needed to give farmers more access to loans enable them to have enough money to finance their farming businesses.

The lecture entitled, Global Trends: The Rightful Place of Nigeria in the World attracted dignitaries within and outside government circle.

Some of the dignitaries at the ocassion include, Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Governor of Borno State,Engineer Babagana Zulum.
