President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during an attack on schools in Esiele community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Gunmen had invaded the community last Friday, abducting staff, students and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
In a statement, the President described the killing as barbaric and assured residents that security agencies were working round the clock to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Tinubu sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo State, while commending the swift intervention of the Nigeria Police Force and the deployment of tactical and Intelligence Response Team operatives.
The President said the Inspector-General of Police is personally leading a technology-driven rescue operation on his directive, expressing optimism that security operatives would soon achieve a breakthrough.
Tinubu also renewed calls for the establishment of state police, saying rising cases of kidnapping highlight the need for decentralised policing to better secure underserved communities across the country.
