Tinubu Hails Soldiers Sacrifice, Gifts Vehicles at Army Leadership Conference

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has charged the Nigerian Army to remain apolitical while strengthening the National Security Strategy, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improved training, modern equipment and enhanced operational capacity.

He spoke at the opening of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2025, praising officers and soldiers for their sacrifices, professionalism and unwavering service.

Describing the Army as a pillar of national stability, the President stressed that security is central to national progress and one of the administration’s eight key priorities aimed at eliminating threats and protecting lives and property.

He said the annual conference offers a vital platform for honest reflection and continuous improvement amid an increasingly complex global security environment.

The Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, said the conference remains a crucial strategic forum for reviewing operational posture, assessing readiness and professionalism, and aligning future direction with Nigeria’s security priorities.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu added that across Nigeria’s history, the Army has consistently safeguarded territorial integrity and unity, noting that security is fundamental to development.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, reaffirmed that the Army remains at the forefront of combating terrorism, insurgency and banditry, commending President Tinubu’s sustained support—especially in personnel welfare, equipment modernisation, training and institutional reforms—which has strengthened responses to emerging threats.

A book titled A Life of Service was launched in honour of late Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, while the Vice President presented 15 Toyota Hilux vehicles to 15 warrant officers, a morale-boosting highlight aimed at motivating personnel and encouraging excellence in service.
