President Bola Tinubu on Thursday night convened a crucial meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with key figures involved in the lingering political crisis in Rivers State.
Among those present were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
Also in attendance were members of the embattled Rivers State House of Assembly, including the suspended Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.
Wike and Fubara, once close political allies, have been locked in a bitter feud since 2023, a conflict that has deeply fractured the state’s political landscape and culminated in the demolition of the state assembly complex.
In a decisive move to quell the escalating crisis and safeguard national economic interests, President Tinubu on March 18, 2025, declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
He suspended both Governor Fubara and the state legislature, appointing a sole administrator to steer the state’s affairs for an initial six-month period.
Thursday’s meeting marks a renewed push by the Presidency to mediate the impasse and chart a path toward restoring peace and political stability in the oil-rich state.
