President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security concerns stemming from the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
The President was expected to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Summit of Leaders in South Africa and later proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit.
However, he suspended his travel after receiving reports of the disturbing incidents.
In response to a request by the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area.
He also directed the police to launch a manhunt for the bandits responsible for the church attack.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu is now awaiting detailed security briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who visited Kebbi State on his behalf—as well as reports from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the Kwara attack.
The President reiterated his instruction to security agencies to spare no effort in rescuing the 24 abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State and ensuring their safe return.
