Trailer Crushes Students in Lagos

Some secondary school students of Ojodu Grammar school in Ikeja area of Lagos were allegedly crushed dead today while some others were injured by a trailer which rammed into the school premises during school hours today.
But according to the Lagos police spokesman, Mr. Adekunke Ajisebutu, the number of casualties in the incident is yet to be ascertained.
Mr. Ajisebutu saiddn that about eight of the injured students are receiving the treatment in hospital.
He said that the driver of the trailer had been arrested and the vehicle had been recovered while normalcy has been restored.
Mr. Ajisebutu also said that the students who went on rampage destroyed some of the vehicles parked at Ojidu police station in an attempt to Lynch the suspect.
correspondent Niran Odufayo gathered that the accident was said to have occurred when driver of the trailer was attempting to escape from officials of the state Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) who were doing some check at Ojodu, Ogba area of Lagos.
As a result of the incident, other students and hoodlums pursued the truck when the driver sped off after knocking down the students.
After apprehending him, the truck was damaged in the ensued rampage which created a riotous scene during which some other moving trucks were vandalized by the mob.
However, it took the swift intervention of men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) led by its Commander, Mr. Olayinka Egbeyemi, who raced to the scene and restored normalcy
