Turkish Airline is to start the airlift of passengers stranded in Lagos and Istanbul since Tuesday this week.
This is coming on the heels of the successful mediation by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Turkish Airlines, allowing the airline to resume flights.
The passengers were stranded due to NUATE’s picketing of the airline on Tuesday.
The intervention led NUATE to temporarily halt further disruptions of Turkish Airlines’ operations in Lagos and Abuja, ensuring the airlift of both inbound and outbound passengers.
The agreement was reached after a meeting with the Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo and Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Mr. Michael Achimugu.
The resolution followed discussions on Wednesday evening between Mr. Achimugu and the Country Manager of Turkish Airlines in Nigeria, with a subsequent meeting on Thursday including NUATE representatives led by General Secretary Comrade Ochema Aba and NCAA’s Regional Manager Mrs. Bukola Teriba.
