The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of two individuals following an attack by gunmen at a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the attackers stormed the facility, fatally shooting ASP Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both from the 45 PMF, Abuja, and carting away their rifles.
The assailants also abducted Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian worker from Kogi State.
The Police condemned the attack and said tactical and intelligence-driven operations are underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
“We are working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders to strengthen security in the area and prevent further incidents,” the statement read.
The Command urged residents to stay calm and law-abiding, assuring them of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
