Shock and concern have gripped residents of a quiet neighbourhood near Ipaja in Lagos, after a disturbing video surfaced online showing a 15-year-old girl in distress during an alleged assault by her mother.
The incident, said to have occurred at 32 Tashoro Street, has drawn attention not just for the violence captured on camera, but for the swift response of neighbours who stepped in to protect the teenager.
In the now-viral footage, the woman, identified by witnesses as the girl’s mother, is seen pinning the teenager to the ground while brandishing a knife, moments after allegedly beating her near the entrance of their residential compound.
Voices in the background reveal the panic of onlookers, some pleading for calm, others moving quickly to separate the pair.

For many in the community, the scene was both frightening and heartbreaking.
A resident who witnessed the incident described the teenager as “helpless and crying,” adding that it took the intervention of several neighbours to de-escalate the situation. “We could not just watch. Everyone was shouting and trying to make sure the girl was safe,” the resident said.
The video, which began circulating early Wednesday, has since triggered widespread outrage on social media, with calls for urgent action by authorities including the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
Many Nigerians have also appealed directly to the state government, urging Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure the safety and protection of the minor.
As of the time of this report, officials are yet to issue a formal statement, leaving many questions unanswered about the condition of the girl and the circumstances leading to the incident.
For residents of Tashoro Street, however, the priority remains clear; the wellbeing of a young girl whose cries have now echoed far beyond her neighbourhood.
