In a bid to achieve an Open defecation free Lagos, WaterAid Nigeria has trained twenty volunteers on how to promote good hygiene behavioral changes in Agbede Olosugbo area of Ikorodu North LCDA.
At the Palace of Baale Agbede Olosugbo, WaterAid Sanitation Hygiene Manager, Mr Dare Oduluyi, stated that the training was to enlighten the volunteers on how to differentiate between bad and good hygiene and be able to disseminate information to educate residents of their community as change agents, as part of Cummins projects in Lagos.

Mr Oduluyi who noted that the hygiene promoters are divided into five clusters which included Great anchor, Home of Grace, kole Grammar and Palace cluster, to enable them spread the hygiene gospel from house to house using local languages to press home the information at the Grassroots level.
“Tomorrow we’ll finish the training and the practical session tomorrow.
Day after tomorrow they will go for fieldwork to go and test their knowledge within the community in a few number of households.
We will now come back for feedback to be able to know what we need to improve upon and what they need to really clean up in terms of their skills” Mr Oduluyi emphasized

“So basically, thereafter, they will now be moving from house to house based on their schedule. They will do their different schedule and be moving from house to house to promote hygiene and to also sensitize the people because as part of the ODF, Open Deficit Free Campaign that is being led by the State”
“This is one of the communities that we also want to showcase as pilots or as frontrunners to ensure that they are open defecation free and they are using toilets and they are imbibing good hygiene practices”
Some of the Hygiene promotion volunteers in Agbede Olosugbo appreciated WaterAid Nigeria for enlightening them on how to keep their environment clean and sanitize their toilets always with a promise to adhere strictly to the five hygiene behavioral changes using the Clean Family Campaign that has been taught.
