Wellness Diary Live Promotes Budget-Friendly Nutrition Amid Rising Food Costs

Brand Multimedia Communication Network has hosted the maiden edition of Wellness Diary Live, an interactive virtual session aimed at advancing conversations around health, wellness, and practical nutrition for families navigating rising food costs.

The session, a mid-series extension of the Wellness Diary initiative, focused on Smart Nutrition for Women on a Budget, bringing together participants and a health expert to share actionable strategies for maintaining healthy diets despite economic pressures.

Speaking during the session, nutrition expert Amaka Okwesilieze Nwaora challenged the widespread belief that healthy eating is inherently expensive.

She emphasized that with proper planning and the use of locally available food options, families can achieve balanced nutrition without financial strain.

She identified poor meal planning and overdependence on processed foods as major barriers to affordable healthy eating, stressing that simple, intentional choices can significantly improve both nutrition and cost efficiency.

Nwaora also highlighted the pivotal role women play in shaping household nutrition, noting that their decisions directly influence family health outcomes.

She encouraged practical habits such as bulk purchasing, leveraging seasonal foods, minimizing waste, and adopting structured meal planning.

A key takeaway from the session was the introduction of the “Healthy Plate” model—a simple framework that promotes balanced meals by dividing portions into vegetables, whole grains, and proteins to ensure adequate nutrient intake.

Participants were further guided on cost-effective food substitutions, including incorporating beans, eggs, and locally sourced vegetables, while reducing the intake of sugary drinks and limiting frequent eating out.

Expanding the Wellness Diary

InitiativeConvener and host of Wellness Diary, Aderayo Olaiya, explained that the initiative is designed as a multi-format platform to drive deeper engagement on health and wellness issues.

She noted that Wellness Diary began as a podcast focused on expert-led discussions around health, women, children, and family wellbeing.

The introduction of Wellness Diary Live now provides a more interactive environment where participants can engage directly with experts and gain practical insights.

Olaiya added that the initiative will culminate in a Wellness Summit later in the year, bringing together a broader network of stakeholders for more in-depth discussions and impact-driven engagements.

“Our goal is to move beyond conversations to measurable impact, creating platforms where people are informed, empowered, and equipped to make better health decisions,” she said.
