Women in Aviation Honours Female Journalists with Inaugural Media Awards

The Women in Aviation International (WAI), Nigeria Chapter, has recognized female journalists for their outstanding contributions to aviation development in the country.

The recognition came during the WAI 2025 Annual Conference held in Ibadan, the largest city in West Africa, where the association presented the inaugural “Aviation Media Awards” to deserving recipients.

President of WAI Nigeria, Dr. Rejoice Ndudinachi, led the commendations, highlighting the vital role of the media in promoting Nigerian aviation and amplifying its visibility on the global stage.

According to her, excellence in reportage has been a key driver behind many of the industry’s recent achievements.

“The media, particularly women journalists, are crucial partners in our collective journey to propel Nigerian aviation forward,” Ndudinachi said.

One of the awardees, Mrs. Nosa Osula-Aituamen of Radio Nigeria, expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as rare and inspiring.

She said, “It’s uncommon for journalists, especially women, to be acknowledged this way. This award motivates us to do even more for the industry.”

Aituamen dedicated her award to the FRCN family for their continuous support and platform that has enabled her to promote the aviation sector.

Similarly, Mrs. Pearl Ngwama, Publisher of JustNews Online, commended her colleagues for their resilience and professionalism in a dynamic industry.

She noted that female media professionals have played a crucial role in driving change and drawing global attention to Nigeria’s aviation growth.

Mrs. Olapeju Olubi of Factechoes Online described the honour as “a testament that our work is truly seen and appreciated.”

Other notable recipients included:Mrs. Itohan Abara-Laserian (News Agency of Nigeria),Mrs. Kemi Awe (Autoglobe Media Services),Mrs. Joy Ogbebor, CEO of MamaJ TV,Mrs. Henrietta Oke (Swift News),Mrs. Chinelo Obogo (The Sun Newspapers),Mrs. Sade Williams (Travelport Online), andMrs. Ifeoma Okeke-Korieocha (BusinessDay).The ceremony also honoured industry leaders for excellence in aviation management.

Among the high-profile awardees were the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN; the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo; the Managing Director, FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku; the University College Hospital, and the *Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, was represented at the event, reaffirming traditional support for women’s advancement in aviation.

The colourful ceremony featured exhibitions, cultural performances, and state chapter parades, showcasing the strength and diversity of women in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
