Women Journalists Honoured as WAI Celebrates Aviation Excellence

Women Aviation Professionals, under the aegis of Women in Aviation International (WAI), Nigeria Chapter, have shone the spotlight on female journalists, recognising their vital contributions to Nigeria’s aviation development.

At the 2025 WAI Annual Conference in Ibadan, several women received the inaugural Aviation Media Awards, a gesture described as long overdue.

President of WAI Nigeria, Dr. Rejoice Ndudinachi, led the commendations, stressing that quality media reportage—especially by female professionals—has been pivotal in driving major gains within the aviation sector.

She described the media as strategic partners in advancing Nigeria’s aviation profile on the global stage.

Award recipient Mrs. Nosa Osula-Aituamen of Radio Nigeria said the honour was rare and deeply appreciated, noting that journalists, particularly women, are seldom recognised despite their demanding work.

She dedicated the award to the FRCN family for their consistent support and for providing her the platform to amplify aviation growth stories.

Echoing her view, Mrs. Pearl Ngwama of JustNews Online praised her colleagues for their resilience in a fast-evolving sector, saying their efforts have helped steer positive global attention towards Nigeria.

Mrs. Olapeju Olubi of Factechoes Online added that the award was a reassuring validation of their commitment and impact.

Other awardees celebrated for outstanding reporting included Mrs. Itohan Abara-Laserian of NAN, Mrs. Kemi Awe of Autoglobe Media Services, Mrs. Joy Ogbebor of MamaJ TV, Mrs. Henrietta Oke of Swift News, Mrs. Chinelo Obogo of The Sun, Mrs. Sade Williams of Travelport Online, and Mrs. Ifeoma Okeke-Korieocha of BusinessDay.

The ceremony also recognised industry leaders such as the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN; DG Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo; FAAN MD, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku; as well as major institutions including UCH and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.

The event enjoyed strong royal endorsement with the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, represented at the ceremony.

It wrapped up in a colourful display featuring exhibitions, cultural showcases, and state chapter parades, underscoring WAI’s dedication to celebrating excellence across all facets of aviation.
