Yoruba Youth Council Mourns Passing of Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin

The Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide, the apex body representing Yoruba youth globally, has expressed sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing his death as a monumental loss to Ibadan, the Yoruba Nation, and Nigeria at large.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary and Spokesman, Mr. Ajibode Abd’kabir, the Council praised the late monarch’s reign as one marked by peace, progress, and cultural revival.

“Oba Olakulehin was a unifying force whose leadership upheld the rich customs and traditions of Ibadanland,” the statement read. “His wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of his people made him a towering figure in Yoruba history.”

Ajibode said the news of the monarch’s death came as a rude shock, especially coming shortly after the celebration of his 90th birthday.

“Though we recently rejoiced with Kabiyesi, we are reminded that life and death lie in the hands of the Almighty. The entire Yoruba youth mourns a royal icon whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.”

On behalf of Yoruba youth across the world, the Council extended heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the government and people of Oyo State, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland.

The statement also recognized the grief felt by key members of the council from Ibadan, including the National Coordinator, Asoju Ọdọ Alawode; Comrade Rahman Akintunde; and other indigenes serving in various capacities.

The Council prayed for strength for the Yoruba Nation to bear the loss and wished the departed monarch eternal rest.
