Youths Corps Members In Lagos Advised to Keep Safe As Heavy Rains and Flooding Threatens

The National Youths Corps Members serving in Lagos state have been asked to keep safe in the face of a  heavy rainfall and flooding being expected in the state in the month of August as projected by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The Lagos State Coordinator, National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa made the plea at the Swearing-in of the 2023 Batch “B” Stream Two Corps Members posted to Lagos state.

She explained that following the recent alert by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),  that Nineteen States and Fifty-six communities across the country including Lagos would likely experience heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding, there was a need for every resident of the state including  Corps members to be safely conscious. 

She advised Corps members to also adhere to safety tips put in place by the state government to cope with the projected heavy rains and flooding.

Mrs. Baderinwa said apart from keeping away from flood prone areas, the Corps members should keep warm and stay healthy at all times. 

She however, urged the Corps members to take advantage of every training programmes they would be exposed to during the Orientation course as these trainings were to prepare them for the challenges ahead.

Mrs. Baderinwa explained that the Skills empowerment programmes incorporated into the training package were to make the Corps members employers of labour and not job seekers after the service year.

In a message to the event, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu called on the Corps members to adhere to the camp rules throughout the Orientation course. 

He assured them that the state government had put necessary machinery in place to keep them safe throughout the three weeks Orientation course. 

Justice Rahman Oshodi later administered the NYSC Oath of Allegiance on the three thousand and seventy-one corps members at the event on behalf of the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
