9 die as container falls on Commercial bus at Ojuelegba

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, says it has recovered eight bodies from the accident involving a truck conveying a 20ft container which landed on top of a commercial bus at Ojuelegba opposite the fire service station on Sunday, January 29th 2023.

In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu listed the fatalities to include 4 adult males, 3 adult females, a girl child and a boy child.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu announced that investigations revealed that the yellow commercial bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge, landing on top of it.

He said the Agency which responded to the accident alongside the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire Service, LASTMA and Nigeria Police, used it’s heavy duty vehicle, “Goliath” to suspend the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu stated that one adult woman who was extricated alive had been taken to the trauma centre.
