As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, peace, and sustained community development.
In a Democracy Day statement issued, Hon. Akinloye hailed the contributions of residents to democratic growth at the grassroots level, describing their participation and unity as the backbone of progress in Eredo and the nation at large.
“We celebrate the strength of our voices and the power of our unity,” the Chairman said. “Democracy is not just a system of government—it is a way of life built on collective responsibility, shared values, and an unwavering belief in a better future.”
Hon. Akinloye noted that the gains recorded in Eredo LCDA, ranging from infrastructural improvements to social welfare and youth engagement—are possible because of the people’s continued support and active involvement in governance.
“Your trust, participation, and partnership have shaped the transformation we see in our communities today. As we mark this important day, we must reflect on how far we’ve come and recommit to peace, justice, and sustainable development,” he added.
The Chairman also used the occasion to encourage residents to remain vigilant in defending democratic principles, promoting civic engagement, and embracing the values of equity and accountability.
Democracy Day, officially observed on June 12, commemorates the annulled 1993 presidential election—widely regarded as Nigeria’s most credible—and pays tribute to the citizens, activists, and leaders who fought for the restoration and preservation of democratic governance in the country.
Eredo LCDA, located within the Epe Division of Lagos State, has remained a critical hub of grassroots development. Under Hon. Akinloye’s leadership, the council has focused on road rehabilitation, education enhancement, primary healthcare access, and economic empowerment programs for women and youth.
“Let us continue to work together to build the Eredo of our dreams—a community where every voice is heard, and every resident thrives,” Akinloye concluded.
