The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a major consignment of illicit drugs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, arresting an Indian businessman and three Nigerian collaborators in connection with the seizure.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that operatives confiscated 2,248,000 pills of tramadol 200mg and 225mg, with a street value of about ₦3.99 billion.
The drugs, disguised as multivitamins in 114 cartons, were imported from Delhi, India, and arrived aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on September 8, 2025.
According to Mr. Babafemi in a statement, a surveillance operation led to the arrest of a clearing agent and two drivers attempting to move the shipment in two trucks on September 11.
The following day, NDLEA operatives apprehended the alleged mastermind, Indian national Gupta Ravi Kumar, while he attempted to take delivery of the consignment.
He says, the seizure marks one of the largest tramadol busts at the Lagos airport in recent months, underscoring the agency’s intensified crackdown on international drug trafficking networks.
