Lagos Association Empowers 300 Elderly With Food, Cash Support

A non-governmental organisation, Lagos Indigenes Federal Civil Service Association, has empowered over 300 elderly residents across several communities with food items and cash support during a Social Welfare Empowerment Programme held in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The initiative, which targeted vulnerable groups including women and the elderly, was aimed at easing economic hardship and improving welfare at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of the association, Kabir Dare Ola-Ayinde, said the programme was designed to renew hope, promote economic inclusion, and provide support to communities amid prevailing economic challenges.

He noted that the initiative also serves as a platform to engage stakeholders, youths, and women through empowerment programmes, scholarships, and human capital development efforts.

According to him, the intervention will help alleviate the financial burden faced by many vulnerable individuals, particularly women and the elderly, while reinforcing the importance of community support systems.

A former lawmaker who represented Victoria Island/Eti-Osa Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Yahya Atanda Dosunmu, commended the association for the initiative.

He stated that the gesture would significantly ease economic hardship and bring relief to elderly residents, especially as the Sallah celebration approaches.

He also urged community members to collaborate with government authorities at all levels to drive grassroots development and improve access to essential amenities.

Dosunmu further encouraged continued support for the Federal Government’s economic reforms, describing them as challenging but necessary for long-term national growth.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation to the association, describing the support as timely and impactful.

Many noted that the initiative brought relief and a sense of inclusion, particularly during the festive period.

The Lagos Indigenes Federal Civil Service Association comprises indigenous Lagosians working within federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The group focuses on advancing community development through youth and women empowerment, scholarships, and sustainable human capital development initiatives.
