The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for its 2026 Eid-El-Fitri Special Patrol Operations, scheduled to run from March 17 to March 22, 2026.
The directive was issued by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of proactive measures to ensure safer road use and smooth traffic flow during the festive period.
The special patrol is designed to minimise road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries, particularly during the high-travel season associated with Eid-El-Fitri celebrations.
The operation will feature increased patrol visibility, strategic positioning of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns targeted at motorists and other road users.
According to the Corps Marshal, Eid-El-Fitri periods typically experience a surge in vehicular movement nationwide, as Muslim faithful travel to celebrate with family and loved ones.
In response, the Corps has mobilised its operational resources to effectively manage traffic and curb common violations such as speeding, reckless driving, overloading, mobile phone use while driving, and route violations.
The Corps will maintain 24-hour patrol operations along critical highways, supported by standby rescue teams equipped with ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorbikes to ensure rapid emergency response.
Additionally, the operation will focus on the swift clearance of road obstructions and continuous monitoring of traffic conditions to reduce delays and improve travel efficiency.
Enforcement efforts will target key traffic offences, including excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, road obstruction, overloading, mix-loading of passengers and goods, seatbelt violations, and the use of mechanically deficient vehicles.
These enforcement measures will be complemented by robust public education campaigns aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance.
Commanding officers across all sector commands have been directed to fully deploy operational assets such as patrol vehicles, advanced life support ambulances, tow trucks, radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, patrol bikes, and communication equipment.
Special Marshals will also play an active role in traffic management during the operation.
To strengthen response capabilities, the Corps will collaborate closely with key agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Members of the public are encouraged to report emergencies via the FRSC toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
While extending goodwill wishes to Muslim faithful for a peaceful Eid-El-Fitri celebration, the Corps Marshal urged all motorists to cooperate with enforcement agencies by adhering to traffic regulations, avoiding speeding, ensuring vehicle roadworthiness, and exercising patience on the roads.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to creating a safer motoring environment for all road users nationwide.
